Solar Shingles for Pensacola and the Florida Gulf Coast

On the Gulf, a roof gets judged by hurricane season. Ours is wind-rated, tested for wind-driven rain and installed by roofing crews, and Jordan, our Gulf Coast lead, can walk you through it.

Hurricane season

Rated like a roof, because it is one.

  • Wind110–200 mphUL 1897. Rating depends on fasteners and exposure.*
  • RainTAS 100Wind-driven rain test.
  • Hail2 in steel ballDropped from 51 in onto the glass.
  • FireClass AUL 790, the top roof fire rating.
  • Temperature−40 to +90 °COperating range.
  • ListedUL 1703 · IEC 61215CEC and FSEC listed.

*Wind rating varies with fastening schedule and site exposure. We confirm the rating for your roof in the proposal.

Our shingles are the roof surface, in low-profile courses offset by 50%, so they follow hips and valleys, and there's no racking bolted through the roof.

After a storm, a repair can stay small. A broken shingle is replaced on its own by removing six screws, so the roof around it never opens.

Battery storage, built into the roof.

Battery storage is integrated right in the roof. By default the system doesn't feed back to the grid, so it can be turned on right away, with no waiting on utility interconnection. If you want to send power to the grid, you can.

The roof and solar carry a 25-year warranty when installed by an Energy ReLeaf cooperative member installer. Batteries and electronics carry a 10-year warranty (third-party components). See warranty and certifications.

Replacing a storm-damaged roof.

If a storm has already put a new roof on the schedule, that new roof can be the solar system. Your insurer decides what a claim covers, and policies differ, so start with your adjuster and your agent. We don't handle or negotiate claims.

Incentives change too, so your proposal lists the ones that apply at your address. Read more on storm damage roof replacement with solar.

The touch-safe, plug-and-play connectors keep electrician labor to a minimum, always subject to local requirements. We strongly recommend a licensed electrician on site during installation to observe the connections and test the system. Solar shingles need a pitched roof.

Questions

Gulf Coast solar shingle questions.

Can solar shingles withstand a hurricane?
Energy ReLeaf shingles are wind-tested to UL 1897, with a rating of 110 to 200 mph depending on fasteners and exposure. They also pass the TAS 100 wind-driven rain test. No roof is storm-proof, so we confirm the rating for your roof in the proposal. If flying debris breaks a shingle, that one shingle is replaced on its own by removing six screws.
What wind speed are solar shingles rated for?
Energy ReLeaf solar shingles are rated 110 to 200 mph under UL 1897, and the rating depends on fasteners and exposure. Wind rating varies with fastening schedule and site exposure, so a single number can't describe every roof. We confirm the rating for your roof in the proposal, based on how it will be fastened and where the building sits.
Does homeowners insurance cover solar panels in Florida?
It depends on your policy, so ask your insurance agent before you install. Coverage, wind deductibles and any change to your premium vary by insurer. Tell them you are adding solar to the roof and get the answer in writing. We can supply product details for that conversation, but we can't advise on coverage or act on a claim for you.
What Florida solar incentives exist?
Federal, state and utility incentives all change, so we don't list rates here. Your proposal lists the incentives that apply at your address when we prepare it, along with the system size and a production estimate.
